The famed golf course architect, Willard Byrd wove 18 links-style holes into the gently rolling countryside, giving each its own breathtaking view of the surrounding woodlands. Lush green Tif 419 fairways contrast with the golden long Bahia rough leading to huge Tif Dwarf Bermuda greens filled with subtle breaks. Gracious round traps dot the entire course lending additional definition to the setting. As you finish #10, climb to the top of the hill behind the green where two large pecan trees and an ancient pear tree grow and turn back toward the tee. You will be graced by one of the prettiest golf vistas in the country. Golf Digest ranked George T. Bagby the "6th best new affordable public course" in the U.S. This ranking, plus on-site lodge and restaurant, make this a great golf destination.

Panaman City Beach(Florida)
|
Whether you’re looking for a long-term vacation or a short week-ender, there are many compelling reasons to choose Panama City Beach.
From an economic standpoint, which, I’m sure, is important to all of us during these trying times of high gasoline prices and stock market woes, Panama City Beach is a great value. As a result of a condominium construction boom, accommodations during off-season periods are at all-time lows. During season, most condominiums only rent by the week. Right now you can get them by the day or weekend. Some restaurants close for the season but the ones that remain open offer affordable specials. You can find marked-down pricing in most stores.
The weather is absolutely beautiful! Temperatures range from 70 to 85 through the end of October and drop 7-10 degrees during November, with an occasional short cold front. Gulf waters are still pretty warm.
No crowds! You can really explore beautiful Panama City Beach without the traffic. There are no waiting lines anywhere.

Delight your senses in our spectacular beaches (voted “safest in the country” and among the top ten in the country) and the expansive waters of Choctawahatchee Bay. Discover miles and miles of pure playground for shell seeking, sun bronzing, sand castle building, soul searching, and surrendering to sun-drenched solitude.
Four renovated beachfront parks - Beasley Park, James Lee Park, Marler Memorial Park and Wayside Park - and six beach mini-parks featuring ADA accessibility, showers and bathrooms are here for all to enjoy. Okaloosa County values and protects its coastal dunes. Erosion is a serious problem along the 30 miles of coastal areas in the county. The dunes are fragile, easily damaged and require special safeguards to ensure their continued protection of inland areas. Coastal dunes range from seemingly insignificant sand hills to formations more than 50 feet high. Unvegetated dunes are vulnerable to destruction by the same forces that form them - waves and wind. These dunes are built by sand that blows into vegetated areas on the beach. They act as dikes against flooding and as reservoirs of sand to replenish the beach. During storms and hurricanes, dune sand washes into the sea and reduces the energy of storm waves.
The dune restoration project at Beasley Park began in 1991 as an Outdoor Classroom Demonstration project between the Yellow River Soil & Water Conservation District, the NRCS Plant Materials Center, the Three River Resources Conservation, Tourist Development Council and Okaloosa County.
Essential to the project’s success are the hundreds of volunteers who have planted and helped maintain dune vegetation at Beasley Park. What works at Beasley Park has served as a model to conserve, protect and restore dune areas in Okaloosa, Walton, Santa Rosa, and Escambia counties. An educational display at the park helps visitors to identify the plants used in restoration and shows how Beasley Park looked before and after Hurricane Opal.
With more than 60 percent of our lovely beaches protected by law, you can be assured that when you return it will still be the same - natural and undeveloped forever.

Pensacola Beaches (Florida)
|

The beaches associated with the Pensacola area are some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Although hurricanes over the past couple of years have changed the landscape, and even washed away many sand dunes, the emerald green waters and white quartz sand still make the areas' beaches unsurpassed in beauty.
A large portion of the beaches are managed by the Gulf Islands National Seashore National Park Service. These include Opal Beach, Fort Pickens, and Johnson Beach in Perdido Key. The National Park Service helps to protect the vegetation, such as the wild oat grass, which prevents erosion beyond the shoreline. They also protect wildlife such as nesting birds and sea turtle egg burial mounds. The National Park Service has also provided many facilities such as restrooms, and pavilions as well as parking lots. All of those provisions help keep vehicles and people from damaging the vegetation and polluting the environment.
In the beaches directory you will see that we have listed 5 beach areas:
Fort Pickens is on the west end of Santa Rosa Island and is part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore.
Navarre Beach is on the east end of Gulf Blvd on Santa Rosa Island. To the east of Navarre Beach is Eglin Air Force Base.
Opal Beach is also on Santa Rosa Island and is about half the distance between Casino Beach and Navarre Beach.
Pensacola Beach is actually the town you enter when you arrive on Santa Rosa Island from Pensacola. Pensacola Beach has Quietwater Beach on the sound side of the island, and Casino Beach which is on the gulf side.
Perdido Key is the barrier island to the west of Santa Rosa Island. Perdido Key is home to Johnson Beach, which is part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, and also Perdido Key State Park.

Horseback Riding / Equestrian
The Southern Cross Ranch was created in February of 2007 by two families who loved
horses. The Weatherlys and the Jones put their horse herds
together to create Southern Cross Ranch. It is owned and operated with the goal of
providing good, clean, family oriented fun and adventure for all to enjoy.
The ranch strives to produce the
best horses for the southeast area. Stallions for breeding, mares for foaling, geldings
for training, and babies for playing with, are all a part of the ranch.
Training is done by Chuck Jones and Diane Weatherly . Chuck has been training horses for
20 years. Chuck has studied under John Lyons, Dennis Reis, Clinton Anderson, and Craig
Cameron. He has a Way with horses. A gentle person, Chuck communicates
with horses with a soft and tender nature. Chuck trains horses full time at the ranch and
keeps several outside horses all the time.
Diane Weatherly has been riding horses for
as long as she can remember. She has directed her thoughts and riding to the English
events, hunter, jumper, etc. Diane trains and rides horses for the public in hunter/
jumper, and likes going to the shows with her associates. Diane graduated from Auburn
University with a degree in Equine Sciences. She has also recently
been selected to represent Henry County in the Alfa Farmers Federation, and was elected to
a state office.
Trails are a new adventure at the
ranch. Leasing land has enabled the ranch to establish new trails that roll through the
natural woods. It is a beautiful and rewarding experience for any horseman to behold.
These trails will take you away to a place that you did not believe still
existed in the southeast area. They can keep you occupied for a short trail ride, one that
takes you all day, or anything in between. You will pass trees so big it takes more than
three people to reach around them and encounter creeks that flow gently beside the
trails. The trails are blanketed by a covering of trees above that only accent the
natural beauty and peaceful setting.
At Southern Cross Ranch we strive very hard to meet the need and desires of our
borders, students, advertisers, and customers. We try to manufacture fun and fellowship
among our students. Diane plans to go to shows and events with the students, and teach
them to show competively. Come on out, bring your family, see how we can help you for your
next event, meeting, or adventure.

Lake Seminole Wildlife Area
A 37,500-acre USACE impoundment on the Chattahoochee and Flint rivers in the southwest corner of Georgia, Lake Seminole is nationally renowned for its angling, especially for largemouth bass. Lake Seminole was originally authorized as the Jim Woodruff Lock and Dam Project by the River and Harbor Act of 1946. The project took its name from a Columbus businessman and engineer who helped convince others of the need for the project. Seminole was the first of three projects authorized to improve navigation, provide hydropower, and add to the recreational opportunities in the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, and Flint River basins. The lake sprawls across parts of Georgia and Florida, with the majority lying within the Peach State. The introduction of non-native aquatic plants has significantly affected Lake Seminole over the years. Eurasian watermilfoil first made an appearance in the mid-1960s, with another exotic species, hydrilla, following a few years later and becoming even more of a problem. The effects of these weeds have been mixed. Although they are excellent cover for the fish, and fishing the weeds is a favorite strategy with anglers, at times thick weed growth has covered almost the entire lake, making navigation and angling difficult. Aggressive control of the weeds by a combination of chemical, biological, and mechanical methods has reduced coverage in recent years and opened up more of the lake. However, during the height of the growing season, weeds can cover nearly half the lake. Boaters visiting the lake are encouraged to clean off their boat and trailer before venturing to other waters to prevent the spread of these exotic nuisance plants. Along with the weeds, Lake Seminole has plenty of stumps and sunken logs. Boaters unfamiliar with the lake need to take care when navigating its relatively shallow waters. Key species: largemouth bass, hybrid striped bass, crappie, bluegill, redear sunfish.
